Terrain Description

Sorcerer Lodge is located high in the Selkirk Mountains on the northern boundary of Glacier National Park. The lodge is tucked in behind a moraine at 2030 metres (6660 feet) between two heavily glaciated valleys. We like to think that the ski terrain is phenomenal and that the views are breathtaking.. Our guests tend to agree!

The terrain we access on a regular basis from the lodge is fairly aggressive and can be challenging. We don’t advertise as a destination for beginners.

Stepping out the door, our guests find themselves in the Lodge Trees area, a 400m vertical zone that ensures you have options to get out even when it’s storming hard. Across Ventego Creek, the Cheap Scotch basin provides south and east facing terrain with open bowls and some steep trees. The Perfect Valley and Shreddies areas provide more tree skiing.

In fair weather, our guests have access to several glaciated areas including the massive north facing Nordic Glacier that gathers snow early and holds it well into the summer. At 3,236m, Mt Iconoclast dominates this area and is a ski mountaineering prize. Other mountains such as Nordic (3,000m), Perfect Peak (2,615m) and Escargot Peak (2,725m) make up part of the selection of other summits accessible within a shorter day tour of the lodge.

Sorcerer Lodge and Great Canadian Heliskiing operate under a joint use agreement giving both the backcountry lodge and the heliski company exclusive rights to specific ski runs. Self-guided groups coming up to the lodge will be notified of the location of the dedicated heliski runs in the area. Sorcerer and Great Canadian communicate each morning to relay daily plans and ensure that both companies are aware of destinations so we get the best skiing with as little interference as possible.
